the final countdown
For those of you “in the know” it will be painfully clear that there is now officially less than two weeks left until the wedding. I’ll avoid excessive melodrama and cliche — and simply write, “yup… two weeks.”
I know — that wasn’t very exciting.
sushi boats
Adding to our repertoire of local sushi establishments, Karin and I dropped by the Metrotown edition of Sui Sha Ya and tried their all-you-can-eat sushi boat buffet yesterday around lunchtime. I’ve never been to a sushi restaurant with sushi boats, and as a consequence, I would now need to rank this particular establishment in my top-five of favorite fun places to eat. It was lunch, and for a mere eleven dollars, we had the joy of parking ourselves around the outer ring of an oblong table. Inside, the su-chefs were busily wrapping and rolling. Outside, a chain of various people were consuming vast amounts of rice, fish, tempura, miso, and dumplings. Dividing the inner ring and the outer ring was not only years of sushi-rolling experience and a little plastic wall with various warnings about not trying to sort your own dirty dishes, but also a foot-square ring of moving water, upon which floated many dozens of little wooden boats, circling in an ever-flowing circle and delivering an ever changing buffet from the chefs to their hungry customers.
I would suggest it is the ultimate lazy smorg, where the food comes to you, but people who eat sushi are rarely lazy — or nearly as enamored as I seemed to be by the water spectacle.
a day of special note
August third — perhaps by design — has become a particularly interesting day:
1 :: My parents anniversary — this year it’s number twenty-nine. Dad’s got it easy this year, because next year he’s supposed to buy PEARLS…
2 :: My cousin, Angie’s, anniversary, and consequently the result of the first wedding that Karin and I attended together. If her or James is ever reading this, they should now be the proud owners of something copper/wool/brass…
3 :: One year to the date of Karin’s and mein engagement. A year ago we spent the weekend near Salmon Arm where I spent my whole Saturday with a diamond ring in my pocket looking for an appropriately opportune moment. This August the 3rd is a little more mellow, but with an upcoming wedding, not much.
