It’s such an arbitrary day. I can’t tell if I woke up early or late. I rolled out of bed a mere twenty minutes after my alarm went off. Normally, this might be an accomplishment and would have, could have, should have been branded an early rousing. But all this week I’ve been making a concerted effort (me, myself, and I) to get up when the alarm rings, and not twenty minutes later. So — technically — I was also late to rise.
Regardless, I was at the office early enough to sneak over to Tim Horton’s before anyone else arrived, grab a hot java, and settle down to ponder this day, an arbitrary day, before I encountered it.
Historically, it’s a moderately interesting span of time, at least insomuch as an arbitrary day can be interesting in any scope of understanding:
Three years ago, according to the blog, we spent a few days wandering around downtown Vancouver, post-engagement, checking out the massive fireworks displays from the balcony of a hotel highrise later those nights.
Two years ago, according to the blog, we had just arrived in Red Deer after a harrowing ordeal involving the infamous tourkar. It was wedding time, or something. That should be a clue about what’s coming up in the next few days.
Last year, according to the blog we had spent this evening in a quasi-broken car, on a lonely road east of the city after a botched attempt at stargazing the perdeids.
So what do I have to show for this year? Something arbitrary, perhaps? Two months in our house, actually making mortgage payments. I bought some new jeans. It’s raining, cold, and gas prices suck enough for us to actually, seriously, be considering a hybrid car. I was at a volunteer orientation for the fringe last night, scheduled, trained, scattered. Or maybe I could just rave about the fragments of my stressed out life?
Ah, too bad.
I suppose we must be due, or the like. Something must be coming up. Maybe this weekend will be interesting. Maybe not so arbitrary as today? Maybe.
So I think I’m going to go with “early” as a show of positive attitude. I got up early this morning. I pulled the covers away and clambered out of the comfortable bed to take on the day, this arbitrary day.
