Occasionally, I find it difficult to focus myself here. Blogging and I, it would seem, have run a long course together, but like any old companion it would be tough to say goodbye.
So, I won’t. Not now at least.
But I’ve got other things to occupy me. Here. There. Everywhere.
Simply: I’ve discovered the joy of Wiki. Not that I’m some kind of head-in-the-clouds noob who had never heard of a Wiki before now. Her gaze has tempted me from across the crowded network before. But now? Now, I happened to find a couple hours just last week to install and prime my own relationship with Wiki. Secret and coddled. My very own.
And why, exactly, is that so exciting?
Words. Text. Uber-blogging, as it were.
Wikis are kinds of collaborative platforms of text and ideas. Ideally they are useful for a few varying (but similar) tasks: (1) bringing together lots of people to collaborate on one or two ideas, (2) bringing together lots of people to collaborate on lots of ideas, or (3) bringing together lots of ideas for collaboration by one person.
That option #3 sounds a lot like something that would be useful for, say, bringing together a bunch of scattered ideas, plots, characters, and locations created over a number of year, and also, say, interlinking them in a simple sort of easy-navigable, simple-to-edit-and-update kind-of-way.
Wiki and I — see — are kindred spirits, I flush with ideas and concepts and trivial information just needing a place to organize it and she a place to organize information in need of ideas and concepts and trivial data to store. Blogging seems very linear at the moment, and she’s done well to me for many year already.
But. People. Change.
So, I’m gonna play there for a while. And here? It’s still here. And I’ll stop by to say hi now and then. But, well, y’know: Blogging and I have reached an understanding about that — and she’s okay with me seeing other software at the moment.
