To Forget: Some Random Things
For the entire month of June I’m planning on writing a series of blog-a-day posts based on a set series of open-ended questions to myself. This is one of those posts.
June 26th // Something You Want To Forget
And… yet another odd question as I hone in on the end of the month of odd questions. And now that I’ve been writing replies to myself in this little exercise for nearly four weeks, I’m really needing to reach into the whole introspective bag-o-tricks a little deeper-and-deeper.
That said, it occurs to me that this particular question can only really be the starting point for one of two rational answers. Either (a) I legitimately discuss something personal, haunting, and altogether daunting that I want to literally wipe from my memory, or (b) I get all philosophical-in-yo-face and reach out into the no-mans-land of whimsy and weirdness. It also occurs to me that it is Sunday night after a very long weekend, a weekend pluck full of little adventures, exhausting days, and tiring nights — not to mention the fourteen kilometer run this morning. So, coupled with my disinterest in writing something grotesquely personal in that state, I think I’ll stick with plan “B” and opt for the whimsy and weirdness.
Thus, my top five things I’d like to forget (and why):
five: The series finale of the (remade) Battlestar Galactica, because having bought the whole series on DVD I have yet to watch it in it’s entirety because I KNOW how the thing ends, and I was sorta… you know… meh.
four: The reviews for about a hundred video games, because I ALWAYS do that thing where I read the review and let someone else tell me what to think about it, and usually I don’t agree, but it’s always just in there, nagging, saying “someone way cooler than you though this was garbage, so… yeah. Have fun.”
three: The entirety of the Star Wars prequels, because the further I get out from having watched them, the more I think of them, the more they replay them over and over on SpikeTV, the truth is: the more they make me annoyed at the whole series. And I don’t want to be annoyed at the WHOLE series. I like the original trilogy. Still. Mostly. But I can’t get past… ARGH!
two: Knowing “What is the Matrix” because in 1999 that blew my mind — totally, completely — and I’d like to have that moment over again, to relive, to rediscover, someone handing me the movie and saying, “Dude, you gotta watch this. It will blow your mind.”
one: Every movie, book, television show, song, or piece of popular culture that tells the story of some innocent little kid getting hurt and their parents wallowing in utter helplessness, because no matter how rational I get, those things linger in my thoughts for at least a few moments every single day of my life, usually right when I’m trying to sleep, and serious frak with me.
So, yeah, some selective amnesia would be nice.
