Thanks, and yeah.. I think it's definitely going to come down to trial and error. I think my best success so far has come with going out for running photo expeditions --- ie photo first, run second -- rather than just expecting awesome pics on a regular run. Either way, combining hobbies is always an fun experiment.

Hey, I actually have spent a lot of time trying to arrive to such a solution as well. I love to run, and photography is my passion, but how to combine both was always a difficulty. I mostly do macro photography, and I always find bugs on my trail runs... but when i'm looking for them they tend to be quite elusive. Originally I tried creating an alternative running style using a Black Rapid strap and keeping one hand on the camera while running to keep it still... that worked but not good for long distances whatsoever. Right now I think the best solution is to run with a backpack that you have your camera strapped down in.

I did a photo expedition along the Appalachian trail with a 75lb backpack, mostly camping stuff, not photo gear, but still my dslr and 4 lenses, and hiked a total of 17 miles up and down small mountains and 17 miles back, during it I found that I could actually run with all that gear at a steady pace, but then again I was using a USMC Ilbe backpack, so those things are designed for mobility.

Long comment short, its possible! Don't give up! You aren't the only active photographer out there. I actually found this post looking for what other people had come up with.
