six… (the countdown to seven years!) In just less than a week, on April 20th, this blog will mark seven years since my “first post.” That first post was nothing much more than a summary of my first official week “lost in Vancouver” after having shipped out from a hovel of an apartment in Edmonton, and trucked with a load of junk to a much smaller hovel in uptown Van-City. That first day in the city was seven years ago today, which oddly enough [...]
…I thought I’d also try and snap at least one good picture of Claire every day in December. I’ll attempt to post the photo in that day’s entry (qualified by the fact that posting a photo involves some level of integration between various bits of technology that is not always conducive to timely blogging.) I’ll admit I’ve been in mediocre standing with my photo-baby-journalism since that day in late-September.
Karin laughed at me about the whole Runnin’ to Vancouver thing. So I went and added another two clicks to my total. True, it’s not too far, yet. But it’s early, and for those keeping track: 9 km puts me running just out the front door, down to the Anthony Henday, and North West up to just shy of the Whitemud. [pfmeter id=3 target=1160 progress=9] I’ll talk less about this as the days wear on. Honest. After that I’ll just mark major milestones. Hitting [...]
It’s Friday afternoon and what could be better than sitting in the middle of your own backyard, laptop computer open in front of you, and the first of the second thousand blog posts clean and fresh with unaltered potential barely visible in the glare of the afternoon sun? Ok, don’t answer that. Sparkle is chewing something meaty, she’s laying on the hunk of blue carpet edged along the back of the black-dirt property-line. The nearby construction is still lingering, their Friday still an hour [...]
Occasionally, I find it difficult to focus myself here. Blogging and I, it would seem, have run a long course together, but like any old companion it would be tough to say goodbye. So, I won’t. Not now at least. But I’ve got other things to occupy me. Here. There. Everywhere. Simply: I’ve discovered the joy of Wiki. Not that I’m some kind of head-in-the-clouds noob who had never heard of a Wiki before now. Her gaze has tempted me from across the crowded [...]
I think part of this issue is around defining who I am. It’s a development thing. A blogging-maturity. What is the point of doing something if it has no point? I’d like to think there is something more to this than a chaotic collection of garbled thoughts. I took that break a couple months back to restructure. A few long weeks of pondering the nuances of this thing. What came out of that? Focus, for a while. Disfocus for more. I don’t really care [...]
Do you care what I ate for lunch? Of course you do, otherwise you would stop reading and go do something more interesting. And you really should. Do something more interesting, I mean. Stop wasting your sad, little lives reading about my sad, little life. In the name of redundant meta-blogging, and to spite the grinding noise of an annoying air-compressor outside my office window, I present a new topic: lunch reviews. Working in this quasi-industrial slash commerical district of town locks for the [...]
I was going to try to start off this entry without complaining how busy I have been, or mentioning that I haven’t had a chance to do anything in the last week even remotely related to writing in this blog or (very, very sadly) working on my novel. I was going to try and avoid saying something like that, but I don’t think it’s possible. So here’s the deal. Even if I locked myself in a cupboad for the next two and a half [...]
Karin and I were in the midst of a laundry frenzy last night, running up and down the stairs every fifteen minutes to switch at least one of our six loads of linens, et cetera, when she lamented, in a paraphrase, that we were basically stuck at the apartment for the evening. I frowned, told her to put on her best fleece, and insisted that we were going out to the mall for an ice cream Blizzard, or failing that, some random drink from Starbucks.
